A Working Holiday in Japan provides Canadian youth with the opportunity to legally live and work in Japan. This program provides you a secured job placement in the Tokyo office of our partner, the Japan Association of Working Holiday Makers. Build your international work experience with this opportunity!

ABOUT THE POSITIONS

All roles are:

  • Full-time position – 8 hours per day
  • Monday to Friday 10am-7pm with lunch break
  • No work on weekends and public holidays
  • Wage: 1,150 JPY/hour
  • Located in the Tokyo office within a 7-minute walk from Shinjuku Station

💼 Business Administration:

  • Work in a manner consistent with legal, ethical and professional standards, practices and protocols.
  • Apply knowledge of the human resources function to the operation and management of an organization.
  • Apply knowledge of operations management to the operation/management of an organization.
  • Apply computer skills and knowledge of information technology to support the management of an organization.
  • Take into account the impact of the economic, social, political and cultural variables which impact on a business.
  • Gather, interpret, analyze and evaluate available information from primary and secondary sources using your research skills.
  • Assist in developing strategies to creatively organize, lead and assume the risks of an organization.
  • Take into account the interrelationship among the functional areas of a business.
  • Assist in the planning, directing and controlling an organization by applying leadership and management knowledge and skills.
  • Develop a business plan in collaboration with others.

 

📈 Business Marketing:

  • To provide proactive customer service to a variety of clients.
  • Apply the theoretical learning to date in the program by participating in marketing projects (both independently and as a team member) that support the marketing objectives of the company.
  • Develop and present the appropriate promotional mix to a company’s target markets.
  • Communicate marketing information accurately and persuasively.
  • Contribute to the efficient distribution of the organization’s products and services.
  • The ability to analyze the potential for marketing a product or service in an international setting.
  • Conduct a marketing research project for a particular product or service, using secondary data and (if necessary) primary data.
  • Contribute to the marketing component of a business plan.
  • Develop pricing strategies consistent with corporate objective competition and/or the other elements of the marketing mix.
  • Determine strategies for managing existing products or services and/or developing new products or services, given market trends and evolving market needs.
  • Apply computer skills and knowledge in the design, editing, developing of operational and promotional materials such as websites, company literature, ads, press releases, correspondence and sales reports etc.

 

🏢 Office Administration:

  • Familiarize yourself and work in accordance with company policies, relevant legislation, standards and codes of ethics in the workplace.
  • Assist with scheduling, coordination and organization of administrative tasks and workflow within company deadlines and according to employers’ priorities.
  • Help coordinate the collection, analysis, distribution and response to communication in the workplace to facilitate the flow of information.
  • Operate and provide support related to the use and maintenance of office equipment and technologies.
  • Assist with the administration of the employer’s records management system to ensure confidential, secure, accessible and organized electronic and paper records.
  • Assist in the production of financial documents and reports using accounting software.
  • Prepare and produce a variety of business documents using available technologies and applying company and industry standards.
  • Use interpersonal and customer service skills to respond to diversity and to support the vision and mission of the organization.
  • Research, analyze and summarize information as required by employer.
  • Use relevant information technologies – including social media and web management – to support communication with internal and external stakeholders and represent the organization in a professional and positive manner.
  • Help organize and coordinate meetings, conferences, special events and travel arrangements, including the preparation of related documentation.
  • Support the implementation of projects by applying the basic principles of project management.
  • Employ environmentally sustainable practices within the organization.
  • Apply basic entrepreneurial strategies such as critical thinking, initiative and creativity to any task undertaken.

THE ACCOMMODATION

The accommodation is available as a private room with a private bathroom or a private room with a shared bathroom. The location is about 30 minutes away by train from the Tokyo office. The shared amenities are:

*Rent is paid by the participant. The total amount depends on the type of room, typically between 81,000 – 83,000 JPY per month . Fees and availability will be confirmed at the time of moving in. Please note that a contract fee of 50,000 JPY must be paid one month in advance to secure the room.

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE WORKING HOLIDAY VISA:

  • You must be a Canadian citizen with a valid Canadian Passport (valid for at a minimum six months past the end date of the visit)
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years
  • You must be in good health
  • You must have a clear police record
  • You must provide proof of financial resources (minimum of $3,500 CAD)
  • You must submit all the documents necessary to support your visa request in person at a Japanese embassy/consulate
  • You must have not held a Working Holiday Visa for Japan before or obtained it only once in the past but have not extended your stay in Japan longer than one year

*As of December 1, 2024, the Working Holiday Visa can be granted twice in a lifetime (up to two one-year periods of stay obtained on separate occasions), or for one period of stay of two years (up to two one-year periods of stay obtained consecutively). The job placement and accommodation is located in Tokyo. The office is a 7-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, a major downtown hub. Housing is about a 30-minute subway ride away.

Start dates are year-round. You can discuss your preferred start date during the registration and interview and we will try to accommodate it as best as we can.

Negotiations and extensions are possible depending on the performance of the candidate and the overall employment experience.

As of December 1, 2024, Canadians can participate in the Japanese Working Holiday twice in a lifetime, each participation with a duration of up to 12 months. More info on the Japanese Embassy website.

Speaking Japanese is not mandatory to participate in this program. However, we highly encourage participants to learn at least basic conversational Japanese as it will open a lot of doors and enhance the working holiday experience.
